How To Avoid Facebook Account Hacks by Enabling Login Notifications Feature
Recently one of my friends account is hacked by someone from Scotland. And he’s asking for to change password and many other things. He’s account is resolved after few minutes. But I would like to share with you guys about the smarter option provided by facebook called “Login Notifications” which can avoid facebook accounts getting hacks.
As Facebook is getting popularity day by day, it’s but obvious that the hackers had keep eyes on that. Now days every Facebook user wants to keep his/her account safe from prying eyes and hackers. Keeping this in mind Facebook has added an extra layer of security in its security settings by introducing “Login Notifications” feature.
Here I’m dividing this post into two parts for better view. First is about to enable and customization of Login Notifications Feature and another is about how it works.
Let’s start with first part.
How to Enable and Customize Facebook Login Notifications Feature
- Go to Facebook.com and login with your email and password.
- Now, Go to Account Tab which is at top right corner of facebook homepage with two other tabs like Home and Profile.
- After clicking on that you can see tabs like Edit Friends, Manage Pages, Account Settings, Privacy Settings, Help Center and Logout options. Don’t go anywhere, just click on Account Setting.
- After clicking on Account Settings, you will land up on a page where you can customize your account settings by changing your name, username, email etc. Scroll down the page you’re on, click on the third last option of Account Security.
- At Account Security you can see a link like manage, click on it page will scroll down little where you can see two buttons of ON and OFF (of get notified by SMS or email if a new computer or mobile device logs into your account).
- Mark on ON button and SAVE it. That’s it, you have done it one part.
- Now you can hide the Account Security Tab and Logout from the Accounts Tab.
Now moves to other part.
How Facebook Login Notifications Feature Works
- Login to your facebook account again with your email and password.
- Now you can see one box is opened asking for Computer Name, it means you have enabled your Login Notifications.
- Now name your computer whatever you want and also specify whether you want Facebook to remember the computer being registered or not. For public computers make sure you leave this box unchecked and for personal computers it should be checked.
- After doing this you can see your home page of your facebook account.
- At same time after giving computer name you will get one mail into your mailbox of your registered email address (i.e. Gmail). Check below screenshot.
- Go to your Account Security of Account Settings where you can see the Computers and mobile devices currently associated with your account.
- Also you can found the Most Recent Activity and Also Activate option from where you can see from where your account is being accessed and time where it will accessed last.
- Also you can see the Approximate Location of account is being accessed with Device Type(like Firefox on WinVista, IE on WinXP)
Similarly you can register other computers or mobile devices too by following the same procedure mention above. For managing your registered computers, go to Account (in top right corner of facebook homepage) >> Account Settings >> Account Security.
For any login to your facebook account from an unregistered computer (probably the one you never used before) or unregistered mobile device, facebook notifies you via Email or SMS about your facebook account hack.
I’m regularly using this smart option, Do you? If not then start using it, who know when your account get hacked.
Note: If you will clear your browser cookies for any reason after registering a computer then you would have to register it again.
